Net buying and selling by company: officers and directors
Open-market purchases minus open-market sales by officers and directors in the last 90 days, for the 355 S&P 500 companies with at least one priced open-market trade. Sellers dominate the second list because most executives are paid in shares and sell some of them on a schedule.

Large holders: 10% owners and others
Investors and funds that hold more than 10% of a company file Form 4 too, but their trades are portfolio decisions, not those of the people running the business, and they are often far larger. In the last 90 days they reported 78 purchases worth $2.0B and 134 sales worth $4.5B. Purchases of $1 million or more, largest first:

How to read this page
Every officer, director and holder of more than 10% of a US-listed company must report a trade in its shares to the SEC on Form 4 within two business days. We read those filings from EDGAR for the 500 companies of the S&P 500 and keep only what the filing itself says: who traded, in what role, on which day, how many shares, at what price, and how many shares the person holds afterwards. Nothing here is estimated.
Only open-market purchases (code P) and sales (code S) count as buying and selling. Awards of shares and options, option exercises, shares withheld to cover tax and gifts also appear in Form 4 and make up most of the lines, but they are pay and housekeeping, not a decision to trade at the market price, so they are left out. A trade that sits far from that day's closing price in our own price history is treated as a typing error in the filing and is left out of the dollar totals.
Officers and directors and 10% owners are never added together. An officer or director is someone who runs or oversees the company, so a purchase with their own money is a statement about the stock; a 10% owner is usually a fund or a famous investor whose purchase is one position in a portfolio. Someone who is both an officer or director and a 10% owner is counted as an officer or director. The 10% section has its own list so that one very large purchase cannot push the officers' and directors' trades out of view.
Read a purchase against the size of the holding. A director adding $150,000 to a $20 million stake says less than a chief executive putting $2 million into a stake that was worth $3 million. The "Owned after" column shows the stake the filing reports, which can leave out options and unvested units. Every company on the list links to its own page, where the last twelve months of insider trades, who sold the most and how much of the selling was scheduled in advance are laid out for that stock.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as insider buying?
An open-market purchase (transaction code P on SEC Form 4) by an officer or director of the company, paid for with their own money at the market price. Share awards, option exercises, shares withheld to pay tax and gifts are not buying, and they are left out of every figure on this page. Trades by 10% owners, who are usually large investors and not the people running the company, are listed in their own section.
How much did officers and directors buy in the last 90 days?
In the 90 days to 27 October 2026 the Form 4 filings of S&P 500 companies report 93 open-market purchases by officers and directors worth $114M at 57 companies, against 1,830 open-market sales worth $9.5B at 323 companies. The largest purchase was $24M of PEP by Pohlad Robert C (Director) on 14 Oct 2026.
Why are 10% owners shown separately?
A holder of more than 10% is usually a fund, a family office or a famous investor, so a purchase is a portfolio decision, often for hundreds of millions of dollars, and it says less about what the people running the company think. In this period 10% owners and other large holders reported $2.0B of purchases and $4.5B of sales, the largest being $136M of LEN by Buffett Warren E on 2 Oct 2026. Keeping them apart stops one large investor from hiding what officers and directors did.
Why do insider sales say less than purchases?
Executives sell for many reasons that have nothing to do with the share price: taxes on vested awards, buying a house, diversifying. 50% of the sale dollars of officers and directors in this period came from filings marked as made under a Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, which is set up months in advance. A purchase with their own cash has one reason, which is why the buying list is the one to read first.
How quickly are insider trades reported?
Form 4 is due within two business days of the trade, so a purchase on a Monday appears by Wednesday. This page is rebuilt from EDGAR twice a day and its filings run to 27 October 2026.
Is a large insider purchase a reason to buy the stock?
Not by itself. A purchase shows what one person with inside knowledge did with their own money on one day; it does not show their reasons or what happens next. Read it with the company's results, valuation and the size of the purchase against what the person already owns, which each stock page shows.
