About Valero Energy Corp

Valero Energy operates petroleum refineries that turn crude oil into gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other fuels and chemicals. It also produces renewable diesel and ethanol, which are lower-carbon fuels. Customers include fuel wholesalers, retailers, airlines, industrial users and other energy companies, and its products move through pipelines, terminals and export routes.

Valero earns revenue from refined products, and its results depend on the gap between what they fetch and what crude oil costs. The last twelve months brought $139.4 billion, though revenue growth over the last three years was -11.4% a year. The operating margin is 7.2%, and the business earns a profit of 27% on the capital invested in it. It has net debt of 0.3 times EBITDA. A dividend is paid, with a yield of 1.1%. On the site's X-Ray Score it receives 41 out of 100.

Fair value estimate

$430middle half of models $401 – $482
Fair +0.9% to fair value
Average of the 15 valuation models that pass our checks: multiples, discounted cash flow, dividend discount and earnings power value. A model more than 100% above or 60% below the price is left out as unrealistic. Model uncertainty is High, based on how far apart the models are. Undervalued or Overvalued means the gap to fair value is more than 17.5%.
Peak-cycle earnings: the current operating margin is more than 1.5x its 7-year average, so multiples applied to today's profit may overstate value; model uncertainty is set to High
