About Exelon Corp

Exelon is a regulated energy delivery company. Its utilities, which serve customers in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest including areas around Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, transmit and distribute electricity and, in some areas, natural gas. Revenue comes mainly from rates approved by state and federal regulators, which are set to cover costs and allow a return on invested capital. Earnings depend on regulatory decisions and on investment in the grid.

Sales reached $24.8 billion in the last twelve months, having grown 8.3% a year over the past three years. Operating profit equals 21.0% of revenue. Return on invested capital is 5%. Net debt is 5.6 times of EBITDA. It pays a dividend, and the yield is 3.7%. Overall, the X-Ray Score is 62 out of 100.

Debt = borrowings plus lease liabilities. Cash & securities = cash, equivalents and short-term marketable securities (long-term securities are not counted, so net cash can be understated for companies that hold large long-term investments). Net debt = debt minus cash & securities. Source: latest SEC 10-Q/10-K. EBIT / EV yield = operating profit divided by market cap plus net debt.

Green means better than the peer median, red worse (only where a higher or lower figure is clearly better). A dash means too few companies report the figure. P/E, EV/EBITDA and price changes are not graded: a different level is not good or bad by itself.

A factor is left out when its data is missing or meaningless (for example a P/E on negative earnings). A dash in the history columns means fewer than three usable years.
