About Cme Group Inc.

CME Group operates derivatives exchanges and clearing houses where traders hedge and speculate on interest rates, stock indexes, currencies, energy, metals and agricultural products. Its exchanges include the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade, NYMEX and COMEX. Banks, asset managers, commercial companies, farmers, energy firms and individual traders use its markets, and the company also provides market data and clearing services.

CME earns fees on every contract traded and cleared, and also from market data subscriptions and other services, so revenue tends to follow trading volumes. Sales for the last twelve months were $6.8 billion, up 9.1% a year across the last three years. The operating margin is 65.1%, and the business earns a profit of 14% on the capital invested in it. Shareholders receive a dividend with a yield of 3.7%. On the site's X-Ray Score it receives 42 out of 100.

Debt = borrowings plus lease liabilities. Cash & securities = cash, equivalents and short-term marketable securities (long-term securities are not counted, so net cash can be understated for companies that hold large long-term investments). Net debt = debt minus cash & securities. Source: latest SEC 10-Q/10-K. EBIT / EV yield = operating profit divided by market cap plus net debt.
