How this list is ranked

  • Universe. Operating companies with their own listing on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) that trade at least $1 million a day and have at least a year of price history; exchange-traded funds and depositary receipts of foreign companies are left out.
  • Score. Market X-Ray score (0 to 100): trend 25%, momentum 25%, risk 25%, trading volume 15%, income 10% (income counts only for companies that pay dividends). Each lens is a percentile rank against every share on the exchange. There are no earnings, valuation or balance-sheet inputs.
  • Order. Sorted by the Market X-Ray score; ties go to the more heavily traded share.
  • Data. Prices, volumes and dividend payments come from exchange data; every figure is our own calculation, dated 22 Oct 2026. Traded value is converted to US dollars.
  • Limits. Scores describe how prices have behaved, not whether a company is well run or fairly priced. Different weights give a different order, which is why the rules are printed here.

Why a ranking by stated rules and not a "best" label: the order changes with the rules, so the rules are published next to the list. See also how the X-Ray Score works.

What this Taiwanese list measures, and what it cannot

The ranking reads only what a share price and its trading volume show: how firmly the price is trending, how far it has moved over three, six and twelve months, how calm it has been (volatility and the deepest fall of the past year) and how easily the shares change hands. We hold no company accounts for Taiwan-listed businesses, so profits, debt and valuation play no part, and we do not store an industry for them or their membership of the TAIEX. The page answers "which Taiwanese shares have behaved well and are easy to trade", not "which are cheap".

Two boards: the Taiwan Stock Exchange and the Taipei Exchange

Taiwan has two stock markets. The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) is the main board, where the large electronics, financial and industrial groups list; the Taipei Exchange (TPEx), often called the OTC market, lists smaller and younger companies. Each of our scores is a percentile rank against the shares on the same board, so a score of 85 on one board does not mean the same as 85 on the other, and mixing them in one table would compare different scales. This page ranks the TWSE only; the TPEx has 260 lines that trade at least $1 million a day, against 515 on the TWSE.

What else trades on the main board

The TWSE table holds more than companies. Exchange-traded funds trade on the same board under codes that start with 00 (the best known are the dividend and Taiwan-50 funds), and Taiwanese investors trade them in very large volumes. 3 fund lines that pass the volume cut are removed, as is 1 depositary receipt of a foreign company. That leaves 511 operating companies.

Many of the remaining names carry "Holding" or "International" and an ISIN that starts with KY: these are Taiwanese-run groups registered in the Cayman Islands for tax and structuring reasons that trade only in Taipei. They are Taiwan shares in every practical sense, and the Taiwanese market calls them KY stocks, so they stay in. The test here is that the share trades only in Taipei, not where the company is registered, which is different from the rule on some other country pages.

The dividend record behind the income lens

One data limit changes how this page should be read. Almost every Taiwanese listed company pays a dividend every year, but our dividend record for the TWSE has gaps from 2024 onward. For the 511 companies ranked here we hold 478 ex-dividend dates for 2022 and 176 for 2025, although Taiwanese companies pay dividends year after year. A company with no usable dividend record gets no income lens, and the lens is simply left out of its score and the others re-weighted, so 6 of today's ten are ranked on price alone. A missing income lens does not mean a company has stopped paying.

That is why there is no Taiwanese dividend ranking on StocksXray yet: a dividend list built on a record this incomplete would rank only the companies whose payments happen to be in the feed. It will be added once the record is repaired. Until then, treat this page as a price ranking.

A top ten made of banks

All 10 in the current top ten carry "Financial", "Bank" or "Savings" in their name (we do not store an industry, so this is a reading of the names, not a classification). Taiwan's financial holding companies and banks have behaved alike over the last year, with steady prices and heavy trading, and the score rewards exactly that. It also means the list is not ten independent bets: shares of banks and financial holding companies tend to move together with interest rates and the property market.

Where the largest company ranks

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. is by far the biggest company on the exchange, and it ranks 31 of 511 with a score of 80.5. Its trading-volume lens is 100 and its trend lens 84 out of 100, and the share returned 69% over twelve months, so it is far from a weak share. It sits below the leaders because size earns no extra credit beyond the volume lens (15% of the score, where every large company is already near 100), and its risk lens, 75, is lower than that of the steady bank shares at the top.

Together Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. and MediaTek Inc account for 12% of the daily traded value of the 511 ranked companies, so trading is concentrated in a handful of semiconductor names even though the list itself is not.

New Taiwan dollars, daily limits and thin trading

Taiwan quotes prices in New Taiwan dollars and caps the move of a share in a single day at 10% in either direction. Each company's daily traded value is converted into US dollars at the latest exchange rate before the $1 million cut-off is applied. The limit slows a crash or a spike over several sessions, so the volatility and drawdown lenses read a little calmer than they would in a market without limits, and a share that hits its limit can be impossible to buy or sell until the next day. All ten of today's leaders trade more than $5 million a day.

What the current top ten shows

The leader is E.SUN Financial Holding Co Ltd, and its strongest lens is trend. The top three are E.SUN Financial Holding Co Ltd, China Development Financial Holding Corp, Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank Ltd.

The ten stocks returned a median 65% over the last twelve months, against 28% for all 511 eligible Taiwanese companies. The typical Taiwanese share gained over the year, so this was a rising market and the list is selecting the strongest part of it: information about the past, not a forecast. A gap this wide also means the scores can reverse quickly if the price trend turns.

How to use it

Use the table to pick companies for a closer look, then read the company's own annual report and filings; listed Taiwanese companies publish them on the Market Observation Post System (MOPS) and on their investor pages. A price-only ranking is most useful for removing shares that are hard to trade or stuck in a downtrend, and least useful for judging whether a price is fair.

Questions about these Taiwanese stocks

Why is there no Taiwanese dividend ranking?

Almost all Taiwanese listed companies pay a dividend, but our dividend record for the main board has gaps since 2024, so a ranking of payers would only cover the companies whose payments are in it. A dividend list will be added once the record is repaired.

Why is Taiwan Semiconductor not first?

The biggest company earns no extra credit for its size beyond the trading-volume lens, which is only 15% of the score and where all large companies are near 100. Smaller shares with steadier prices and strong recent returns score higher. Its current rank and score are shown above.

Why are Taiwanese ETFs such as 0050 not ranked?

ETFs are funds and trade on the same board under codes starting with 00. They are excluded from company lists, which rank operating businesses.

Why does this page not cover Taipei Exchange (OTC) companies?

The TWSE and the Taipei Exchange are separate boards and our scores are percentile ranks within one board, so they cannot be ranked together on one scale. This page covers the TWSE.

Is a high rank on this list a reason to buy?

No. The ranking measures how a price has behaved and how easily it trades; it says nothing about profits, debt or valuation, and past price behaviour does not predict future returns.
