DAX 40 rises 0.91% as European shares close higher

The DAX 40 gained 0.91% on the day, while reports differ on the cause of the wider European move.
The DAX 40 (a score that follows 40 big German companies) rose 0.91% on 26 October 2026, our end-of-day data show. The move is measured against the previous close (the level when trading ended the day before).
The reports differ on the cause. One report says European shares fell as a slump at HSBC (a bank) and energy fears offset a lift from AI (artificial intelligence) shares. Another says stocks edged higher as oil prices eased ahead of decisions by the Fed (the US Federal Reserve) and the ECB (the European Central Bank). A third says markets slid as HSBC earnings dragged on banks and unrest in France weighed.
The reports do not say what happens next.
