S&P 500 gains 0.70% as tech shares get a boost

The S&P 500 rose 0.70% to 7,676.77, while reports point to a lift for technology shares and a retreat in crude oil.

The S&P 500 (a score that follows 500 big companies) rose 0.70% to 7,676.77 at the close on 26 October 2026, our end-of-day data show. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.82% to 26,169.38.

Reports say technology shares got a boost from an Anthropic IPO listing (a first sale of shares to the public). One report says Brent crude (a grade of oil used as a price benchmark) cooled below 115 dollars a barrel.

Reports also say investors awaited company results and decisions from central banks (institutions that set interest rates).

The reports do not say what happens next.
