Membership is assigned by StocksXray rules from the fund name, so a fund can appear in several groups and a fund with an unusual name can be missing. Yield is distributions paid in the last 12 months over the latest price; returns are total returns including distributions. Click a column title to sort.
How the materials funds differ
The reference fund for this sector is XLB, the Select Sector SPDR for materials. It holds the S&P 500 companies in the sector (chemicals, metals and mining, packaging and construction materials), and the eleven Select Sector SPDRs together make up the S&P 500. Funds from other families follow different indexes and hold a somewhat different mix. Funds whose main focus is another sector (biotech funds under technology, for example) are kept off this page.
Among the 13 funds above, the lowest expense ratio is XLB at 0.08% a year and the highest WGMI at 0.75% (as reported in SEC prospectus data); three quarters of them charge 0.65% or less. Over the last twelve months total returns ranged from −46.2% to +24.7%, and over five years from −12.7% to +22.6% a year. A wide range usually means the funds hold different slices of the sector (regional banks against broad financials, for example), so look at what a fund holds before comparing its numbers with another's.
