Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile, known as SQM, is a Chilean producer of minerals and industrial chemicals based in Santiago. It extracts lithium from the Atacama salt flat and supplies lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide to battery and industrial customers. The company also makes specialty plant nutrients and potassium-based fertilizers for agriculture, produces iodine and iodine derivatives, and sells industrial chemicals such as nitrates and potassium salts to customers around the world.
