Vale is a Brazilian mining company based in Rio de Janeiro. It produces iron ore and iron ore pellets, which it supplies to steelmakers, and it also mines and processes nickel, copper, manganese and the minerals used in fertilisers. Its operations include large open-pit mines and processing plants, and it moves much of its output to customers through its own rail lines and port terminals. Its customers are mainly industrial firms in steel, metals and agriculture.
